Happy, Blessed & Prosperous New Year, dear ones!

I'm putting another annual planner to rest this week. It's amazing how fast time goes by. It seems it takes forever to get to 16, 18 and 21 years old but then when you hit 30 everything's accelerated and there's no stopping it.

I'm excited for 2016. Are you? Or are you dreading it? I hope you're not dreading it but I understand if you may be. The last quarter of 2015 was rough for a lot of folks. Myself included. I had to fight through some ugliness to secure the vision for 2016. If you've been struggling in anything you have to do the same - press through and grab hold of the light shining through. No matter how small the glimmer of that light, if you fully take hold of it you have enough to keep you going until breakthrough comes. It will come. I'm a witness.

As soon as you get the vision for the days head, be sure to write it down. Seeing it in your mind's eye is always the first step to achievement and attainment but don't stop there. Write it down. Rehearse it by speaking it out. Share your vision with others. Do the necessary work.

I dedicated the last 40 days of 2015 to put the tent pegs in the ground for the personal territory I'm taking in 2016. Throughout the upcoming year I'll share parts of my process so you can learn from the supernatural strategies I implemented and gleaned during that time. I hope that'll encourage you to keep moving forward in all you've endeavored to do.

The best is yet to come.

How to Ruin Your Reputation

Have you seen this? It was all over Twitter yesterday, so you probably have. Of course, I don't have all the facts or know what's behind their tension, but I would've fired them both if I were their supervisor because it was inappropriate. They're news professionals not reality tv actors, and represent a media corporation that's supposed to have a reputation of providing reliable information. Bad news and behavior often travel faster than good, and I wouldn't want my company associated with that incident.

I've been in this position with finger pointing, bickering and neck flying. In the moment you really feel you're in the right. But when you get to see a recording of it after the fact, you realize you look like a child throwing a temper tantrum. It's not pretty. Man or woman.

As we mature our emotional intelligence should increase to a point where we're able to remain calm in all situations. I often think back to a lesson my dad taught when I was young about being thermostat or a thermometer. A thermostat is controlled by an individual. This is self-control and discipline, where you decide what raises your temperature and gets you heated. A thermometer simply responds to the temperature around and has no control over it's reaction; it just goes up or down.

Self-control and emotional intelligence have to be learned and cultivated. They're not intrinsic to human behavior. We're born wanting our way and only through training do we learn that life is full of compromise - also known as patience. I've had to focus on improving my self-control, patience and emotional intelligence over the years. I'm still a work in progress, but I'm thankful I'm not where I used to be.

If you're struggling with self-control, patience or emotional intelligence be encouraged because you can improve. I can help you assess the situation, compose a plan to increase in the areas of deficiency and track your progress as you implement proven strategies. Schedule a call or book a package today.

Pasco School District's Enterprise Week 2015
TRAC
Pasco, WA

I had a wonderful week serving as a company advisor for 16 seniors from three different high schools. They formed a company and carried out six successful quarters to become division winners (850 students, 52 teams/companies) in two categories.

I had an amazing group of kids who worked so well together you'd think they'd all known each other beforehand. The first day was a little rocky, but after the shyness and awkwardness was overcome they received my wisdom where needed and got right to work. There were actually only 3.5 work days because of weather cancellations and my kiddos still came out as champions.

You know I'm proud of them because there are people who've volunteered with Enterprise for all 16 years it's been in existence whose companies haven't won anything and my mentees won two categories - 1st Place in Marketing, 2nd Place Overall -  my first year. Once a teacher, always a teacher.

I also received some awesome feedback from the students; it was hard not to cry. One of the young men, Kalob, said they learned more in that one week (less than) than in a whole year of school. That's simultaneously awesome and unfortunate. Another young man, Colby, commented that they only did so well because I was their advisor.

At the advisor celebration dinner there were no seats available for Z and I, so they had to make room and we were favored to have sat with the incoming district Superintendent. She said if I ever decided to return to teaching to give her my resume directly.

I was nominated - for some reason - to do table introductions and when I finished they were all gushing over me saying, "Give us your business cards," "Stay in touch," "We have to bring you back next year for sure." It's so funny I was nervous about what I'd say because I'd just met these folks 20 minutes prior and I needed to tell their names and businesses but when I got up I did fine. I asked Z if he could tell I was nervous and he said not at all, I seemed like a professional.

What a tremendous honor. Experiences such as this one almost make me want to return to public education. Almost.

Being fed in the teacher's lounge was excellent as always. There was everything you could want to snack all day from donuts to cheese and crackers to bagels and oatmeal. And all-you-could-drink tea, coffee, water and juice. That's one thing I'd forgotten about being a teacher is that we don't skimp on food in the lounge. The school lunches we were given outside of the lounge left much to be desired. Overall it was fabulous and I'm so blessed to have had the opportunity to represent Z Solves Problems in such a way.
